Safety in God’s will

John 11:9
9 Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. (KJV)
Background information:
This statement Jesus made after knowing of Lazarus’ death and He told them it was time to head back to Judea and the disciples were trying to discourage Him because they realized that the Jews there wanted to stone Jesus to death.
Now look again above at Jesus’ answer. He was giving them an analogy here-talking in a parable so to speak. What He is actually telling them is that He walks in the day-God’s day, God’s light. God gives Him all the safety He needs. The person who walks in the light can see where he is going, so also the person walking in God’s light of His will knows where he is going and can go safely. So Jesus was in effect letting them know He would be safe enough. What He did not tell them was that He also would-shortly after that-be a challenge again to the Jewish leadership. Of course, that challenge would culminate in His crucifixion which He had told them about several times in the past and they didn’t receive those statements as truth. They had not gotten to the point of being willing to lose Jesus nor did they understand what they would gain by His death. Nor could they relate to what Jesus said when He said He would be raised on the third day.
In the meanwhile-Jesus walked in the light of God’s will-doing that is the same as walking in the daylight. Walking outside of God’s will is walking in darkness, like the black darkness of night. Are you walking in darkness, not knowing God’s will for you? Or are you walking in the light of Jesus knowing His will for you?
