Psalms 4
4:1 For the choir director; on stringed instruments. A Psalm of David.
Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! Thou hast relieved me in my distress; Be gracious to me and hear my prayer.
2 O sons of men, how long will my honor become a reproach? How long will you love what is worthless and aim at deception? Selah.
3 But know that the LORD has set apart the godly man for Himself; The LORD hears when I call to Him.
4 Tremble, and do not sin; Meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, And trust in the LORD.
6 Many are saying, "Who will show us any good?" Lift up the light of Thy countenance upon us, O LORD!
7 Thou hast put gladness in my heart, More than when their grain and new wine abound.
8 In peace I will both lie down and sleep, For Thou alone, O LORD, dost make me to dwell in safety. NASB

Good Morning! How often when calling upon God for help do you declare the things He has done in the past as David did in verse 1? He states–You have relieved me in my distress. This is talking about past experience here. He is calling on God again for help against those who have been treacherous in their dealings with him. He also declares that God has set apart the godly man for Himself. What does that mean? It means that God has chosen the godly man to be His child, His servant, His holy one, His favored one, His messenger, and many more things.

Then he declares God does hear his prayers and answers them. He then declares that one should fear God and not sin. One should even think about God when lying down in bed, and being still before God. Have you ever been able to do that? David learned to. To even accomplish that one has to let God know his or her worries and then just hand them over to Him in faith that it will be taken care of.

David then reminds us to offer the sacrifices of righteousness–doing right things that are even a sacrifice to do. And just plain trust God. David doesn’t want anyone following the thinking of those people who despair of any help or favor in tough situations. Too many are like that. Then he asks God to show everyone His favor. He himself is glad and happy and all thanks to God. He can lay down and get a good night’s sleep because he knows God will keep him safe.

David lived in times that often proved dangerous and treacherous. Enemy nations surrounded Israel, and for many years he was chased by Saul. Finally out of hopelessness Saul committed suicide while under attack by the Philistines. Yet David not only found he could lie down in peace but count on God hearing his prayers. We are living in times that are starting to prove treacherous, far more than any of us could have imagined would be likely in our life time, but here they are. What is the key for our peace of mind? Faith in God and letting Him do as He will, all the while carrying the responsibilities we are supposed to–and all for His glory, not ours. We are in a time of sifting. We are also possibly at the time of our ending as a sovereign nation. I really hope I am wrong.

Acts 17:26
26 and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, NASU

What I do know is that Christians from this whole country need to wake up and do a lot of repenting. We need to get our eyes off self and the “bless me” mentality and start thinking how we can bless God instead. God gave the nation of Israel extra time whenever the nation would repent under the various kings who decided to follow God. God gave David favor when he repented. And Solomon got blessed just because he had a godly father. But not so Solomon’s son’s. Solomon’s were affected by Solomon’s unfaithfulness to God and lost 10 of the tribes to non-godly leaders. The tribes of Benjamin and Judah were the only ones to make up the Kingdom of Judah. We here in the U.S. are in a time of testing. Are we going to turn to the Lord whole heartedly as a nation or just keep running after the world’s pleasures and ways?

David knew where his security came from. Do you know that really as well as he did? I do hope so. Love, the Good News Lady
